What the Polls & Pundits Are Ignoring

My hot take on key voting groups we aren't paying attention to!

With 19 days left until the election, anyone who is paying attention has been completely inundated with polling, data, predictions, electoral college vote counts, and everything under the sun that we really don’t care about. The fact that so many people are having large scale anxiety about these polls further plays into the news cycle panic at the voting booth the mainstream media needs to keep the lights on. Don’t give them that satisfaction.

While most Americans have never been polled, or even answer the phone when it rings… we still continue to focus so much on these numbers which have been outdated since before the polls fucked us up in 2016. Occasionally they may share some indicative trends… it’s really nothing more than common sense tells us these days in the long run though.

All while we are ignoring several large factors going into this election which after all is said and done, and every last vote is counted… I fully believe will blindside the scholars for decades to come.

First, let’s talk about the COVID death numbers. Because I think we all seem to forget the exact timeline of COVID and when the 2020 election took place. In fact, the height of the COVID deaths across America wouldn’t peak until mid 2021. Something that we are not actively thinking about. Among the largest demographic lost during COVID happens to be part of the largest voting block, the 65+ voters.

Both of these trends were noted during the 2022 election when the very much “red wave” everyone predicted never actually happened.

Among the demographics lost to COVID include people who merely didn’t believe it existed. They didn’t believe the science. Studies even showed that more Republicans died than Democrats when it came to COVID.

So while COVID may not be fresh in our minds currently because we are all desperately trying to forget that portion of the last decade even happened. It did… and those numbers will impact 2024.

Next? Women.

Once again we are all sitting back and completely discounting the impact women are about to have in this election. Yes, we know there are tons of new young women voters. We knew once Roe V. Wade was overturned, the daughters of the fetal feminists would show up and show out. This election though, there is a sleeper cell inside the female vote none of us ever thought of before now.

In fact this morning alone I came across a story of an elderly woman voter in North Carolina. Interviewed while early voting she shared the story of this being the very first election she has been able to vote in, because prior her husband had not allowed her to vote. He didn't think women should have a voice at the ballot box, so she had gone her entire adult life never having the option.

I think you know who she voted for.

But those aren’t the only women we should be paying attention to. It’s the women who are going to go into the voting booth this year and voting for her daughter instead of how her husband told her to. It is the woman who finally understands that her vote is private and she doesn’t have to tell anyone who she voted for. The woman who for the first time in their lives are going to split with their partner and stand up for what they truly believe in.

Actually have a voice.

Those are the women we shouldn’t be sleeping on. Because they are out there. They are energized. And they are going to show up in numbers that are genuinely going to floor experts.

I’m not saying that we should become comfortable or relax by any means. We need to continue full steam ahead into the election like we are literally on fire. I don’t care what the numbers say, or the polls…not the fundraising dollars or anything in between… Until the fat lady sings. We will not sleep.

Now get the fuck up and vote.
