What Do We Do Next?

Well shit, how y’all doin’? I had to channel my best Leslie Jordan for that one. Fuck how I miss him.
I hope over the last couple days you’ve been kind to yourself and tuned out the world. If you haven’t I recommend unplugging and recharging a bit. We all need it, and deserve it. Remember that. We have all been at it around the clock for months. Whether it is on our phones, or just door knocking and doing the work. Pat yourself on the back. You did good!
But for those of us who took the time off and are recharged, pissed off, and wondering what the next step forward is? That is what I am here to talk about this morning. It is time that we look at the future and what we are going to do to fight back.
The first thing I suggest is aligning yourself with a cause or organization ready to fight back within your community. Pick the cause that is closest to you. Something you are most passionate about and dive in. Commit like you are committing to a college football team. There are so many to choose from. Immigrant rights groups, ACLU, NAACP, Planned Parenthood and various reproductive rights causes. There are so many places to start and that is what I am here to help with today.
The groups on the ground that are already starting to vow to fight back include:
It isn’t going to be easy. And it isn’t going to be a walk in the park but we did it once and we are all prepared to fight back tooth and nail again. We will not go quietly, and we will use the letter of the law and the freedoms afforded to us by the Constitution to fight back as hopeless as it may seem.
What we have on our side is how long the legal system takes to drag a lot of this out. Much like we’ve watched with Biden’s student loan debt forgiveness back and forth. The laws that are in place now will take a lot to undo, and that is in our favor.
I personally am a member of the ACLU. That is the cause I usually hunker down with because they cover so many broad swaths of Civil liberties. A one stop shop of fighting back. Total transparency too, I also donate to Planned Parenthood annually. They saved my life when I had no insurance. I will never forget that.
I know that in the process of asking what now, AOC made a video this week and shared as well which gives me a lot of hope that there is something going on behind the scenes that we necessarily aren’t seeing. Which is probably exactly what is happening.

Lastly, I recommend building an in-person community of like-minded people that you can get together with and spend time with outside of just on the internet. Go out for drunks, build a social club that is based off of social action or fighting back, get involved in your community or your church. It can literally start anywhere you feel safe.
These in person networks are good for the soul. They are good for sanity. And they are also good in time of action.

I would LOVE a community of like-minded progressive friends here in FL. I'm down for game nights or a meetup to build community. It's been very sobering to see how many people are just ok voting their & their community's rights away. Like who are these people I live amongst?? I've honestly started to make contingency plans to leave the state & US if needed. Its hard to come to terms with but honestly think it just may be time (at least to get out of FL).
