Perpetual Hope and Chronic Disappointment
Preparing for the next two years
When I say two years I mean we have the chance to turn this ship around come the next mid-term election. Which is what I am hoping we do. So let that be my mild disclaimer going into a post we all may find depressing.
It is human nature to want to hope for the good. Change, and progress. That feeling I wish we could have bottled back during the 2008 Obama Campaign. It was a feeling that would be palpable for years and would creep back up in the most rawest of forms during the Harris Campaign. Which is why I think we all felt even worse the day after the election in 2024 than we even did in 2016.
Because we knew what came with it. We knew what we were up against. We knew the fuckery that was right at our doorstep and what we had to do to defeat it all. Then 19 million motherfuckers stayed home on Election Day and didn’t show the fuck up.
Now this is what we have to deal with.
Through this time we are going to have to look for the silver lining in all of it. The people who are fighting back. But we are also going to have to fight back, and obstruct, and do our part to keep our communities and people safe during a more fascist administration than the last time around.
Someone asking about a loved one? Hmm… I’m not sure if I know them. I don’t think I can answer that question.
And in this early days it is going to be an onslaught of a lot of bullshit. But that is exactly what most of it is… bullshit. Executive Orders from the desk of the President often exist as nothing more than a wishlist of what he would like to see happen. Legally? A lot of it will go nowhere. Then there will be an onslaught of legal action that will likely end many of the things he would like to do.
Our only hope is the razor thin majority in the house continues to deteriorate and that helps carry us till the actual midterm elections. And in the mean time it is okay to have hope. Let us have at least that as we have to navigate this flaming hellscape. Let us have our self care in whatever form that happens to come to you in.
Be gentle with others, be graceful within our own communities. Don’t eat each other when we need each other the most.
